500 million records sold

Robert Allen’s first big break came in 1952 when he became a composer for NBC’s popular TV series The Colgate Comedy Hour. Since then, Allen's works have sold in excess of 500 million records, launching the careers of such artists as Johnny Mathis and The Four Lads and richly seasoning the repertoires of such highly respected artists as Perry Como, Tony Bennett, Billie Holiday, Mitch Miller, Carol Burnett, George Shearing and Doris Day. Allen's creations have also enhanced the soundtracks of numerous movies including Tin Men, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Chances Are and Goodfellas.

Timeless appeal

Allen’s music continues to be recorded by artists attracted by its timeless appeal. Barry Manilow, in 2002, and Garth Brooks, in 1999, both performed the seasonal favourite (There's No Place Like) Home for the Holidays HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS (THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE) by ROBERT ALLEN,AL STILLMAN| on their Christmas albums and in 2008 Allen’s remarkable canon was given another beautiful interpretation on the album Chances Are: The Romantic Music of Robert Allen, sung by esteemed vocalist Carolyn Leonhart and released by the Kassner group company, President Records.

ASCAP Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award

In 2000, Robert Allen was selected as recipient of the ASCAP Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award (now the ASCAP Foundation Life in Music Award), a fitting recognition of his enormous contribution to popular music. Sadly, Robert died later that year on 1 October, aged 73. Robert’s memory will live on in his songs and also in the ASCAP Foundation Robert Allen Award, a prize funded by a gift from his wife Patty Allen and presented annually to an aspiring ASCAP songwriter.
