"PORTRAIT OF MY LOVE" PLACED IN VOLKSWAGEN ADVERT
As the European advertising campaign for the new Volkswagen Up! rolls out, television viewers may recognize the soundtrack to the popular commercial spot. It features the Kassner song Portrait of My Love PORTRAIT OF MY LOVE by CYRIL ORNADEL,DAVID WEST| as it was interpreted by jazz trumpeter Oswald “Baba” Brooks. Written by Cyril Ornadel and David West (a pseudonym for Norman Newell) Portrait of My Love was originally a UK top 10 hit for Matt Monro in 1960 and then also for Steve Lawrence in the US one year later. It remains one of the most enduring songs in the Kassner catalogue, with over 2 million broadcast performances confirmed in the US alone.
The song was placed by international music agency MassiveMusic|, with the overall campaign designed by Grabarz & Partner Werbeagentur GmbH. Highlighting the appeal of the Up!’s diminutive size, the TV advertisement,is themed around the message “Small is great”. Filmed in Los Angeles by director Markus Walther, it focuses on how large products progress into smaller, more refined versions of the original over time.
