Just 22, Chris Turpin has already made a huge impression with his songwriting. Elements of Blind Willie McTell and Ruth Willis, Johnny Cash and June Carter and Hank Williams can be heard in his eclectic mix of soulful duets, murder ballads and multi-tempoed bluegrass rhythms. The American influences in Chris’ music are unmistakable, evoking in the listener a sensation of being in deepest Alabama.

Critical acclaim

The eponymous debut album of Chris Turpin’s band Kill It Kid| was released to universal critical acclaim in the British music press. It was labelled “an outstanding British record” by Clash magazine and “Impressive stuff” by NME, who awarded it 9/10 and 8/10 respectively. Chris’ songs blend delta blues and roots to striking effect, producing blistering, unapologetic rock’n’roll one moment and a smoky film-noir ambience the next.

The power of the music underpinning Chris’ songs is unquestionable, but he also displays a rare ability to scribe lyrics that, through the use of a magnificent range of language and imagery, fully draw his audience into the scenes and stories that he creates. His emerging talents have attracted many admirers and have led to collaborations with Billy Livsey, Tim Gordine and Ricky Ross amongst others.

XFM New Music Award and International Songwriting Contest Nominee

The extent to which the variety and quality of Turpin’s music has been lauded makes it unsurprising that Kill It Kid’s first album made the final shortlist of 10 for XFM's New Music Award for 2010. His potential was further underlined when composition Taste The Rain TASTE THE RAIN by CHRISTOPHER TURPIN| reached the final 13 in the performance category of the 2011 Intenational Songwriting Contest, a competition which receives 15,000 entrants per year.
